Helambu Trek

 

Helambu Trek is a short/low altitude trek through the Sherpa villiages north of Kathmandu valley. This trek starts in Sundarijal and climbs the Shivapuri ridge which offers sweeping views of the central Himalayas . The trek visits the villages of Thare Pati, Melemchi, Tarkegyang.

  • Day 1 : Arrive Kathmandu , meet your guide at airport, check into hotel, and review the gear you brought and discuss the next days events, walkabout Themal area for Dinner.
  • Day 2 : Drive to Sundarijal, a steep walk to Bulang Banjyang 2500m, lunch, walk to Pati Bhanjyang, 5 hours walking.
  • Day 3 : Trek to Kutumsang through forest of rhododendrons, 4 hours walking
  • Day 4 : Trek to Melamchi which is a village of sherpas , 5 hours walking
  • Day 5 : Trek to Tarkegyang. After breakfast descend 2 hours through forest, lunch at river, 3 hours walk uphill to Tarkegyang (2600m). Visit Buddhist monastery. Total walking time 5-6 hours.
  • Day 6 : Trek to Shermathang through apple archards, 4 hours walking
  • Day 7 : Walk downhill through Bahunepati which is a village made up of the ethic people of tamangs, bus back to Kathmandu , 6 hours walking
  • Day 8 : Site see the Monkey Temple (Swayambunath), Pashputinath Temple .
  • Day 9 : Site see Boudhanath the largest Stupa in Nepal , Bhaktapur (a world heritage site).

The Helambu trek is $275 USD for a single person. Helambu trek for two people sharing rooms is $400 USD total for both people.
